I am entering my VIN into the "Home" page, but receive a message that the campaign is no longer available. Is this an incorrect message or is the campaign no longer available?

Do I need to choose the retrofit option to be able to continue to use the Bluetooth hands-free feature in my vehicle? If I don't choose the retrofit, will I lose the Bluetooth hands-free feature in my vehicle?

Please note: After September 30, 2017, this campaign is no longer available. The information noted below describes how Bluetooth functionality is not dependent on whether the vehicle was retrofitted with newer technology.

The Bluetooth hands-free feature will continue to function as designed even if you do not choose the retrofit option. It is not a requirement to select the retrofit option in order to continue to use Bluetooth for hands-free functionality.

How do I know if my vehicle was affected by this campaign?

If your vehicle had an active BMW Assist Safety Plan or BMW ConnectedDrive contract which expired January 1, 2017 or later, you received communication from BMW to inform you that your vehicle was affected. This campaign was predominantly for Model Year 2013 and earlier vehicles, although Model Year 2014 X6, Model Year 2015 and earlier X1, and Model Year 2016 and earlier Z4 were also affected. Only vehicles with an active BMW Assist / BMW ConnectedDrive contract expiring January 1, 2017 or later were affected.

What happened to my BMW Assist services and what was BMW offering as a solution?

If your vehicle was affected, your BMW's on-board cellular technology, used for delivering numerous BMW ConnectedDrive / BMW Assist features, was no longer supported after December 31, 2016. This eliminated features such as SOS, BMW Assist eCall™, and Concierge Call.

In order to maintain our firm commitment to customer satisfaction, BMW offered several solutions since your current BMW ConnectedDrive / BMW Assist contract was active beyond this date.

  • $300 BMW Lifestyle and Accessories voucher for in-Center purchases + Deactivation of existing technology
  • $200 Visa® Prepaid Card + Deactivation of existing technology
  • Retrofit of new cellular technology. Customers with less than one year remaining on their current subscription may purchase a BMW Assist Safety Plan for $199 per year to ensure an extended period of service.

Please note: once completed, your selection cannot be reversed. If the cellular technology is deactivated, your BMW will no longer be able to support BMW ConnectedDrive / BMW Assist and important features like the emergency call button.

What happens to BMW Assist after December 31, 2016?

After December 31, 2016, the underlying technology originally used for BMW Assist services in affected vehicles was no longer supported. BMW Assist services were no longer available. For customers who chose to retrofit their vehicles, updated technology was installed so that BMW Assist services continued to function for the remaining duration of the contract.

Will customers get any extension of their contract?

Customers did not get an extension beyond their existing expiration date. Customers with less than one year remaining on their current subscription could purchase a BMW Assist Safety Plan for $199 per year to ensure an extended period of service.
